Museum at Work

The “Museum at Work” series returns to the Archaeological Park of Luni — an initiative designed to take visitors behind the scenes and showcase the ongoing projects, research activities, and worksites that are transforming the Park.

The event scheduled for Tuesday, November 11 at 3:00 PM will be dedicated to the digitalization of the Park’s storage collections, a project launched in recent days. The initiative involves the high-resolution digital acquisition of hundreds of artifacts unearthed during archaeological excavations at Luni and preserved in the Park’s depots, which are normally not accessible to the public. This work will enable the documentation and innovative enhancement of the collections of the National Museum and Archaeological Park of Luni, broadening knowledge and accessibility to previously unpublished materials.

The project is funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) M1C3 – Investment 1.1 “Strategies and digital platforms for cultural heritage,” sub-investment 1.1.5 “Digitalization of cultural heritage”, and is coordinated by the Central Institute for the Digitalization of Cultural Heritage – Digital Library of the Italian Ministry of Culture.

During the visit, participants will be guided by a Park archaeologist inside one of the depots, where selected artifacts chosen for digitalization will be presented. A Park restorer will also illustrate the ongoing activities, which are preparatory to the digitalization of the artifacts and essential to the maintenance of Luni’s archaeological heritage. The event will conclude with a guided tour of the Park’s new museum.

The visit is included in the admission ticket and requires booking.
If the minimum number of participants is not reached, the visit will be rescheduled and registered participants will be notified by phone.
